My Postpartum Food Prep
I am a little over a month postpartum and wanted to share the foods I prepped before I gave birth! Most of the typical freezer meal ideas didn’t seem like things we would eat, plus I really didn’t plan on taking a huge break from cooking dinner, so I focused rather on breakfast, snacks, and a few items that made mealtime easier. These things made it so I didn’t have to think too hard about food those first few weeks.
Carbs:
Sourdough french toast (Used the defrost setting on the toaster to thaw and heat. So yummy!)
Sourdough waffles (Reheated in the toaster)
Freshly milled banana bread (Used my classic recipe but with FMF. Turned out perfectly!)
Sourdough sandwich loaf (This recipe, sliced and frozen)
Sourdough rustic loaf (This recipe, sliced and frozen)
Sourdough bagels (This recipe, sliced and frozen)
Sourdough chocolate chip cookie dough
Soaked granola
Protein:
Chicken marinades (I made italian, honey mustard, worcestershire brown sugar, and cilantro lime. Freeze, thaw for a day or two then cook as usual)
Beef meatballs (Seasoned and shaped, flash froze uncooked, baked when wanted to eat)
Chicken meatballs (Seasoned and shaped, flash froze uncooked, baked when wanted to eat)
Burger patties (Shaped and frozen, cooked when wanted to eat)
Raw cheese cubes (Perfect for throwing on a snack plate, only takes a few minutes to thaw)
Shredded cheese (Perfect for quesadillas, grilled cheese, taco night, etc)
Bone broth (Froze in pints and simply thawed and seasoned when I wanted to drink some)
Pickled eggs (Kept in the fridge, not freezer)
Frozen yogurt (I made vanilla and a peanut butter chocolate chip)
Sourdough english muffin sandwiches (Filled with sausage, egg, and raw cheddar. Warmed in the oven when wanted to eat)
Ginger turmeric chicken soup (I used this recipe. So yummy!)
You wouldn’t think that something like shredded cheese would be a blessing to have in the freezer, but when you have a baby in one hand and you’re trying to get dinner on the table, being able to skip that step for taco night is a huge lifesaver! Something else that I did that I’ve loved is freezing freshly squeezed lemon juice in ice cube trays and then storing in ziplock bags. I froze some plain for things like baking and cooking, and some with a pinch of celtic salt in each, which are perfect for throwing in my water for some extra electrolytes throughout the day.
As the time drew near I also made sure my fridge was stocked with at least 6 dozen eggs, milk, and full fat greek yogurt. I also did a really big meat order from the local farm we buy from to stock the freezer. These preps plus my usual pantry staples being stocked made for a really wonderful transition back into cooking after baby.
Now that my hands are fuller and free-time more scarce, I’m definitely going to make it a habit of doubling recipes to freeze in order to make snacks and lunches easier for myself. Is there anything you love keeping prepped and stocked in the freezer? Let me know in the comments below!
Blessings,
Kaetlyn
