Homestead Wood Butter
Homestead Wood Butter
In our homestead kitchen, we value tools made from wood for their beauty and versatility. But wood needs tended to and properly cared for. Wood butter is a great way to keep wooden utensils, bowls, cutting boards, and tabletops from drying out and cracking. With proper care, wooden tools can last for many years, sometimes even generations.
The problem with most wood butters is that they contain mineral oil. Mineral oil is a by-product of the petroleum industry. While deemed “food-grade”, it is by no means healthy. Mineral oil is highly processed, far from “kind” to the environment, and it’s something we choose to avoid in our household, especially on items that will be touching food. Our Homestead Wood Butter offers an alternative, made with 2 minimally processed all-natural ingredients. This wood butter has been carefully formulated to moisturize wood without being sticky or waxy and is sure to keep your tools looking lovely!
To Use: Using your fingers or a rag, rub a small amount on wooden utensils, cutting boards, or tabletops until fully coated. Allow the butter to soak in for a few hours and then buff it out with your fingers or a rag.
Frequency: Some do this monthly or bi-monthly, but we find it to be more reasonable as a seasonal chore. Items that are washed more frequently will need to be buttered more frequently.
