Antique Wooden Dough Bowl
Antique Wooden Dough Bowl
This old wooden bowl is sure to inspire your next batch of cornbread or johnny cakes! A style reminiscent of pioneer days, this bowl is not only useful, but beautiful as well. Use for displaying eggs, fruit, or holding a stack of freshly washed tea towels.
I have washed this bowl with a gentle soap and gave it a good seasoning with homemade wood butter—a mixture of organic coconut oil and beeswax—giving the wood a moisturized deep hue.
Like all antique wood, this bowl has its own charm and character found in the cracks, stains, and tones. There is some chips and roughness on the inside of the bowl which can be seen in various photos. Because of this, the bowl would work best for display or harvesting, rather than mixing up batter. Wood-buttering frequently will help keep this bowl in its best condition.
Details:
Size: Approximately 11 inch diameter
Brand: No branding, most likely homemade
Materials: 100% wood, homemade wood butter
Care: If the bowl is washed frequently, a monthly wood buttering is recommended. If used for display, wood butter every few months or when the wood looks dry. This prevents cracking and keeps the bowl in tip top shape for many more generations to enjoy!
